Retire the $30,000 lobby box.Switch to Virtual Intercom.
NX Intercom runs on phones and tablets your residents and guards already own — no hardware purchase, no rewiring, no truck rolls. Cloud-native WebRTC with PSTN failover, live in under a week.
What ships out of the box
WebRTC video calls
Visitors press one tile in the lobby tablet (or scan a QR code) and ring the resident's phone over IP. HD video, two-way audio, sub-second connect on Wi-Fi or LTE.
PSTN failover
If a resident is offline or the network drops, the call rolls to their registered phone number through our SIP trunk — no missed deliveries, no stranded guests.
Multi-device ring
One unit, every device. The call rings the resident app, the guard tablet, and any backup number in parallel until someone picks up.
Remote gate release
Approved visitors get a one-tap unlock from the resident — wired to your existing strike, Wiegand reader, or third-party access controller.
Recorded events
Every call, decision, and gate release lands in the NEXUS audit ledger with timestamps and the operator's identity. Pull a clip in seconds if there's a dispute.
Guard-mode console
Concierge desks get a multi-line console: queue inbound calls, transfer to residents, leave notes on the unit, and trigger the SOS workflow when needed.
Live in under a week
- 01
Day 1 — Site survey
We confirm your gate hardware (strike, magnetic lock, or controller), test mobile coverage at every entrance, and pick the right tablet anchor points. No conduit, no rewiring.
- 02
Day 2–3 — Provisioning
Tablets ship pre-enrolled. Residents get an SMS invite to install the NX Resident app and verify their unit. We import your roster from the NEXUS ledger automatically.
- 03
Day 4 — Dry run
Your guards run live drills against a test unit while we tune ringer policy, escalation timers, and PSTN failover rules. Audit log starts capturing from minute one.
- 04
Day 5+ — Go live
Cut the legacy lobby box and remove the panel. Calls route through NX Intercom by default; the SIP failover keeps grandparents and unverified residents reachable.

Common questions
Do residents need to install an app?
Recommended but not required. Residents who skip the app still get PSTN failover calls on their registered phone number and can authorize entry by voice prompt.
What happens during an internet outage?
Calls fail over to PSTN automatically. The lobby tablet keeps an offline-cached roster so guards can dial residents directly until connectivity is back.
Can we keep our existing gate hardware?
Yes. NX Intercom drives any 12/24V strike or magnetic lock and integrates with most Wiegand / OSDP controllers through a small bridge module included in setup.
Is video stored?
Calls are not recorded by default. Snapshots of each visitor and the gate-release event are logged to the audit trail. Full-call recording can be enabled per-property with explicit notice.
